As one of the best-selling musical artists of her generation and a cultural icon, with a net worth well over $1 billion (thanks to the highly successful Eras tour), Taylor Swift is unsurprisingly one of many stars boasting their own fleet of private jets. Swift currently holds ownership of two Dassault jets, including a Falcon 900LX, purchased back in 2011 for $40 million.

Covering a range of up to 4,750 NM and with improved efficiencies, the Falcon 900 has become a popular choice for those with the financial means to fly private thanks to its spacious cabin, luxurious interiors, and improved efficiencies, and appears to also be Taylor’s preferred mode of air transport.

Lucky Number 13

Easily recognizable thanks to its Number 13 livery and very fitting registration, N898TS, the aircraft has already seen hundreds of hours in flight this spring and summer during the bulk of Swift’s Eras tour. The aircraft is most frequently spotted in Swift’s hometown of Tennessee, commuting to and from cities across the US for her shows.

Dassault’s Falcon 900KX holds capacity for up to 12 passengers across its spacious cabin, with other amenities including a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom with a shower, and a bedroom, perfect for that post-show relaxation. Unfortunately, no images are available of the inside of Swift’s jet; however, it is likely similar to other interiors showcased on Dassault’s website, albeit infused with her maximalist and boho interior design preferences.

Environmental criticism

In 2022, Swift was alleged to have made around 170 private jet flights in just under seven months. A representative refuted these claims, explaining that the aircraft is rented out when not in use. The controversy dragged up further coverage of Swift’s other Dassault jet, a Falcon 7X (N621MM), which had reportedly emitted 8,293 tonnes of CO2 during the same period, equal to 1,200 times the average person’s annual emissions.

Taylor’s jet is loaned out regularly to other individuals. To attribute most or all of these trips to her is blatantly incorrect.

Despite racking up thousands of miles in air travel through her tour so far, Swift appears to have largely scaled back her jet usage through 2023. According to Insider, a spokesperson for Swift clarified that she had also purchased over twice the amount of carbon credits to offset her emissions through the tour via Terrapass.

As the Eras tour expands across the pond to Europe, Asia, and beyond, Swift may look to alternate with the longer-haul Falcon 7X. The aircraft has already begun overtaking N898TS in terms of total flight hours; in October, N621MM recorded 15 total flights to N898TS’s six.

According to The Richest, Swift previously owned a smaller Dassault Falcon 50 jet, purchased back in 2012 for $4 million. The nine-seater aircraft was sold in March 2020, with Swift donating the proceeds to charity.

Enhanced performance

It remains unclear why Swift appears to have a preference for the French-based aircraft manufacturer over competitors closer to home like Gulfstream or Bombardier. Social media users have speculated that the added security of a third aircraft engine provides an aspect of security on her frequent transatlantic jaunts; the trijet similarly has the capability of traveling more direct routes over water.

The Falcon 900LX is noted for its enhanced take-off/landing weight ratios, allowing the aircraft to make multiple-stop journeys without refueling. Other efficient features include Dassault’s High-Mac blended winglets, which reduce fuel burn by up to 33% compared to its competitors.
