This time the second floor of Cinta Bhavan, built right near Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, was abuzz with laughter. In the comedy sketch show ‘Sugarcoated Bitter Gourd‘, the first of its kind in India, about one and a half dozen artists tried to entertain the audience with five skit performances. In this combined effort of director Neeltarani Pratap and showrunner krishna Hooda, a lot of satire was made on the social system. Among these five skits, ‘Air Con‘ got the maximum applause, and ‘Dead Student Society‘, a satire on the suicide of students in Kota, also shocked the people.
The evening of skits for Arnav Kedia, prasad Borkar, Sorin Desai, and vishal Aggarwal started with the skit ‘Dead Student Society’. This show of comedy sketches is a bit like poor theatre, in which the artists have to do everything through their physical expressions. Be it a fan or a drum, everything has to be polished in such a way that the audience feels that a particular thing is present on the stage. The story is inspired by the repeated incidents of the suicide of students in Kota and is a direct satire on the coaching operators who are completely focused on money and do not care about the lives of the children.
Apart from this comedy skit in ‘Sugarcoated Bitter Gourd‘, most people liked the presentation of ‘Air Con‘. In between, the actors of ‘Dil Ruba dil Toota‘, ‘Brown Blood‘ and ‘Don’t Mind the Gap‘ also tried to make the audience laugh. But, the audience’s relationship with ‘Aircon‘ seemed to be formed directly. The skit accurately depicted the growing trend of airlines charging money over and above the ticket fee for everything from seat selection to food and drinks. At that part of the play, the entire Veda Kunba theater erupted with laughter when the air hostess fixed the service charge according to the weight of the passenger when he became suspicious.
The Negative Drama Group’s presentation ‘Sugarcoated Bitter Gourd‘ had been presented earlier on the theater stages of Aramnagar, but this was the first completely professional presentation on such a large scale. Apart from acting, actress abhilasha FNU, who also helps the team backstage, says that our team includes all professional actors. Apart from these, some people have also joined the group, who have learned filmmaking from foreign schools, and after coming to Mumbai, they have started liking acting.
Actor Raghav Goyal, who played Mr. Kothari in the skit ‘Air Con‘, was the most favorite actor of the evening. He also brilliantly played the role of an employee eating pan masala in ‘Don’t Mind the Game‘. Apart from Raghav, the intoxicating and seductive acts of abhilasha FNU in the first play ‘Dead Student Society‘ also impressed the audience. In these plays, Alec, Anika Aggarwal, anjali Mishra, dhruv Kapila, Fatima Qazi, Jatin Ahuja, Joshua Chin, prasad Borkar, Rajveer Vashishtha, rishabh Kirti, sheetal Sahni, Osama Zaheer, vishal Aggarwal and Vishwajit Nishad also played their roles. Tried my best to manage.
