With the long summer days lingering in the north, Alaska Airlines resumed its seasonal service between Anchorage and New York JFK on Thursday. This is the only nonstop service between Anchorage and New York JFK, and it will operate daily through August 19, 2024.

It’s a long way

While the route is operating it will be Alaska Airlines’ (Alaska) longest route on its network. The flight is scheduled to operate with a Boeing 737 MAX 8 that will take around seven hours to cover the 3,385 miles between Anchorage and New York JFK. The first flight, AS607, departed Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) on June 13 at 20:17 and, after a 6:46 hour flight, landed at New York John F. Kennedy International Airport at 07:02 on Friday.

The flight was operated by a brand new Boeing 737 MAX 8, registration N801AK and MSN 67802 (pictured above), that is scheduled to depart JFK at 09:45 and arrive back in Anchorage at 13:30. Marilyn Romano, regional vice president of Alaska for Alaska Airlines said that Alaskans love travel options and even more when they include nonstop flights.

“Our new service to New York JFK is a perfect addition to our flight schedule for Alaskans wanting some adventure in one of the world’s most dynamic cities and for New Yorkers eager for new experiences in our great state.”

Having nonstop daytime service from JFK to Anchorage will be attractive to New Yorkers. It will make it easier to get away and enjoy the wilds of Alaska, with its countless outdoor adventures, rich Alaska Native culture, wild Alaska seafood, jaw-dropping scenery and history-filled towns.

The Long Ranger MAX 8

The Boeing 737 MAX 8 has the longest range of any aircraft in Alaska’s fleet, so it’s a perfect fit for the longest route in the airline’s network. The MAX 8 that operated today’s inaugural is no stranger to transcontinental flying, having recently operated sectors including Seattle-Washington DC, Portland-Nashville, Boston-San Francisco and New York-Seattle.

According to ch-aviation, Alaska has four 737 MAX 8s and has 16 more on order in its fleet of 248 aircraft. The active fleet is solely comprised of 737 variants, including 11 737-700s, 59 737-800s, 12 737-900s, 79 737-900ERs and four 737 converted freighters. The MAX fleet includes the four 737 MAX 8s and 70 737 MAX 9s. The listing also shows nine Airbus A320-200s that are listed as inactive.

Perhaps thinking about the long flight from Anchorage to New York, Alaska pointed out that its inflight entertainment allows passengers to enjoy hundreds of movies and TV shows streamed to their personal devices. Guests can also stay connected with the streaming-fast Wi-Fi available for purchase and keep their devices charged with power outlets at every seat.

In this summer season, Alaska is flying to 14 nonstop destinations from Anchorage to the Lower 48 and Hawaii. Alaska is making it very easy for its local guests to fly nonstop to Chicago, Denver, Honolulu, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, New York JFK, Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle and Seattle/Everett (Paine Field).
