Airlines still working to recover from global outage

Travelers are continuing to deal with issues at airports across the country as airlines work to restore operations after the global outage that started Thursday night.At Sacramento International Airport, suitcases lined the walls near baggage claim, and travelers looked for ways to pass the time as airlines dealt with the lingering impacts of the outage.”Our flights are delayed continually. They keep getting delayed,” traveler Savannah Medico said. Medico is traveling with a group of about 150 camp counselors. She said the group is split between two flights to Salt Lake City. Both flights were cancelled on Saturday. “There’s nothing any of us can do about it. So, we’re just hoping that it works out,” she said.As their time traveling is just beginning, Reid Harris’ trip is ending. Flight delays and cancellations led him to book a car and drive 16 hours to Sacramento from Denver with his wife and son. “This is the worst I’ve ever seen it,” Harris said. “We just got back. Lucky our luggage came here where it’s supposed to be.”Cooper Steil is still hoping to get his luggage. He said his flight to Denver was delayed – meaning he would miss his connecting flight to Des Moines, but he didn’t learn that until after he checked his bag. “We’ve been waiting for an hour and a half trying to get them back,” Steil said. “We’re kind of out of luck. So, we’re just trying to wait for our luggage now, and hopefully, we’ll even drive home or find another flight.”The travelers KCRA 3 spoke with said they were flying on United and Delta Air Lines. Delta said it is continuing its operational recovery, adding more than 600 Delta and Delta Connection flights were canceled Saturday. Additional cancelations are expected as some of Delta’s technology continues to recover from Friday morning’s vendor-caused issue. United said most of their technology systems have been restored and reliability is improving, although they will continue to see cancellations and delays this weekend.Both United and Delta are asking travelers who experienced delays or cancellations to use their respective travel waivers.Sacramento International Airport said it was back to normal operations by 7:30 a.m. on Friday morning.
