The 777-300ER is typically deployed on long-haul routes from the Fort Worth, Texas-based carrier’s other hubs at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York, Miami International Airport (MIA), Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
Widebody workhorses
As the largest airline to serve Charlotte, American has exclusively deployed its slightly smaller 777-200ERs on transatlantic routes to destinations such as Madrid, Frankfurt, and Munich. The widebody has also frequently been utilized on short-haul and long-haul domestic flights. During peak periods of the year, the 777-200ER operates regularly to MIA. American formerly used the aircraft type on its longest domestic route between CLT and Honolulu, Hawaii.
LHR was revealed as CLT’s top international destination this past spring. As such American has three daily flights scheduled between the two destinations. The 777-200ER will handle the other two daily flights. AA732 and AA734 are the LHR-bound flights, while AA733 and AA731 journey back to CLT.

More premium seats
American’s 777-200ERs have a total capacity of 273 passengers across three cabins. The 777-300ERs accommodate 31 more passengers with a total of 304 seats onboard. They are also slightly more premium, as the aircraft type is equipped with a fourth class: Flagship First. The cabin, which is the carrier’s most premium experience, has only eight lie-flat seats. Each seat has a width of 21.5 inches, along with elevated amenities, such as chef-inspired dining.

Passengers are also pampered with amenity kits featuring travel essentials from Shinola and D.S. & Durga. For sleeping, travelers can stay comfortable with pillows and blankets developed exclusively by sleep technology company Casper. The Flagship Business cabin is equipped with 52 lie-flat seats. It features the same amenities, but the seats are slightly smaller, with a width of 20.5 inches. Premium Economy has 28 recliner seats with a width of 19 inches; however, they are not lie-flat. The remaining 216 seats onboard comprise the Main Cabin, albeit 28 seats are designated as Main Cabin Extra with increased legroom.

The 777-200ER has only 37 Flagship Business seats, meaning American will add 23 more premium seats with the 777-300ER between CLT and LHR. With 31 more seats compared to the 777-200ER, the oneworld Alliance member will increase the route’s capacity by 434 seats each week.
American became the first US airline to operate the 777-300ER in 2013. According to aviation data and analytics firm Cirium, the carrier will deploy the aircraft type on the CLT-LHR route daily through March 29, 2025.
