According to aviation analytics company Cirium, airlines in the United States will operate a total of 78,099 flights to airports across California in August 2024.
California’s most popular destination: Los Angeles (LAX)
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the most popular destination in California, followed by San Francisco International Airport (SFO). This comes as no surprise because LAX has been the largest and busiest international airport on the West Coast of the United States.

In fact, LAX airport accommodated 75 million passengers in 2023, making it the world’s eighth busiest airport. According to Cirium data, the largest US-based carriers, including American Airlines, United Airlines, and Delta Air Lines, will each operate more than 270 flights from their major operating hubs to LAX airport.
This month, the most frequently served route to California is between Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), operated by

. The carrier has a total of 424 scheduled flights between these two destinations.
Delta Air Lines
operates the second most frequently served route to California. The Atlanta-based airline has 371 scheduled operations between its primary operating base at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) and Los Angeles (LAX).

Southwest Airlines
holds the third spot with its route between San Diego International Airport (SAN) and San Jose International Airport (SJC), totaling 342 flights this month.
San Francisco (SFO) also leads the way
San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is the second most popular destination for airlines operating in California.
United Airlines
offers the most flights to SFO, primarily from its hubs at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).

According to Cirium, United Airlines operates 334 flights between ORD and SFO, making it the eighth most frequently served route to California in August 2024.
Other frequently served routes include SFO to EWR, Denver (DEN) to SFO, Houston (IAH) to SFO, and LAX to SFO, all operated by United Airlines. Alaska Airlines also ranks among the top, frequently serving SFO. The SEA-based carrier has 312 scheduled flights between Seattle Tacoma International Airport (SEA) and San Francisco (SFO).
