Volaris is launching its first-ever route from the United States to Baja, California, next spring. Flights will be operated daily.
New route
Next spring, Volaris will launch its first-ever route from the United States (US) to Baja California. Beginning on March 20, 2025, the Mexican airline will connect Oakland to Los Cabos daily. Flights will be operated by the airline’s Airbus A320neo
.
San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport announced a new international route earlier today. Following years of struggles with flights being cut, the airport hopes that its rename from Oakland International Airport to San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport (OAK) will change its fate. Since the name change in May, Viva Aerobus, another Mexican airline, has added services to the airport.
Holger Blankenstein, Executive Vice President of Volaris, said,
““We are thrilled to launch our new service connecting Oakland and San José del Cabo, bringing more low fares to Bay Area travelers. At Volaris, we are committed to offering our customers affordable options to some of the most beautiful destinations, and this new route reinforces our dedication to connecting our passengers to the places they love without breaking the bank.”
The flights will operate on the following schedule:

Recent additions
According to the airport, Delta Air Lines, Sun Country Airlines, and Viva Aerobus have added services since the name change. There is no direct correlation to the name change, but these are reasons for the airport to celebrate nonetheless.
Sun Country was the first to add services following the name change. On May 23, the airline launched nonstop service from Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP). The seasonal service, which ran through September 1, was only offered by Sun Country as no other airline flies nonstop to MSP.

Next came Delta Air Lines
, which, in June, launched flights to Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). The Atlanta-based carrier deploys its Boeing 737-900ERs to Oakland, connecting the two cities daily. This route is perfect for those in the East Bay, who now have a nonstop flight to ATL without having to cross the bay into San Francisco.
In July, Viva Aerobus, a Mexican ultra-low-cost carrier, launched flights to Monterrey. The airline became the first to ever fly between Oakland and Monterrey in Mexico. The flights, which operate twice weekly, on Mondays and Fridays, are operated on the airline’s Airbus A320 and A321neo aircraft.
Just one month later, Viva announced it would add more flights to OAK, increasing from two weekly operations to ten. Because of the success of the flight to Monterrey, the airline decided to add one more flight every week. Additionally, Viva said it would begin flying daily from Guadalajara to Oakland.
“We’re thrilled to launch new international services from Guadalajara, another key Viva base. The new route to San Francisco Bay Oakland International will strengthen the region’s international connectivity. We see great potential in the Guadalajara market.” Juan Carlos Zuazua, Chief Executive Officer, Viva Aerobus
