LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Alaska Airlines has completed its $1.9 billion buyout of Hawaiian Airlines, the two carriers announced Wednesday.
The combined company will now work to get a single operating certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration, which would allow Alaska and Hawaiian to operate as a single carrier with an integrated service system.
In the meantime, the airlines will continue to operate as separate carriers with no immediate changes to operations, according to a news release.

That means they will have separate websites, reservation systems and loyalty programs for now.
Alaska says flyers will still keep the miles earned in both loyalty programs. Alaska Lounge members will also be able to enjoy lounge locations while flying on Hawaiian.
Later this month, members of both loyalty programs will be able to exchange miles between the two and purchase flights on both airlines through both websites.
The two loyalty programs will eventually merge into one system. Alaska says they will reveal more details later next year.
Out of Las Vegas, Hawaiian Airlines flies to Honolulu and Kahului, while Alaska flies to several West Coast cities and Anchorage. Alaska also has seasonal service to Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos, Mexico.
