Plastic-Wrapped Florida Man Checks In As Luggage At MIA: Should Miami-Dade Police Have Pressed Charges?

Having lived in Miami for many years, I’ve grown to expect quirkiness in the Sunshine State, but this was an eyebrow-raiser.

A Florida man recently wrapped himself in the same plastic wrap used to protect luggage and tried to check himself in as baggage at the LATAM check-in counter at Miami International Airport. The event, recorded and shared on Instagram by an account appropriately called onlyindade, has earned a strong reaction from many, ranging from ridicule to frustration and dismay.

One Instagram commenter asked, “Has everyone lost their mind in Miami after 2020 or am I just realizing that now?”

Another added, “Is this some kind of kink?”

Well, not quite. It was all just a social media stunt, and the man was escorted off the airport premises by Miami-Dade County police without incident (after being relieved of his plastic wrapping). However, a fair number of those who commented on the video post agreed that the man should have been charged with disturbing the peace.

Virgin Atlantic Adds 2 More London Heathrow Routes—Thoughts?

Virgin Atlantic will begin two more London Heathrow routes next year: Riyadh and Accra. Slots appear to be from the previously announced end of Shanghai Pudong and, while unconfirmed, potentially from ending Tel Aviv flights.

On March 30, a daily 787-9 service to Riyadh will begin, presumably partly funded by the Saudi Air Connectivity Program. VS242 will leave Heathrow at 14:45, while VS243 will return at 07:00 the next day. Both are well-timed for North American connections. In 2023, London-Riyadh had 440,000 roundtrip passengers. It was a heavily premium market, with the average one-way fare being $1,200.

Virgin will join BA (daily) and Saudia (double daily) for four daily flights. Interestingly, Saudia is currently triple daily. Did the reduction contribute to Virgin’s entry? Riyadh Air is set to enter the market next year, further changing the dynamics.

On May 1, a daily A330neo to Accra will take off. VS403 will leave Heathrow at 22:30, and VS404 will return the next day at
