Numerous airlines worldwide operate on the world’s most lucrative route across the pond connecting New York and London. However, only four airlines use Boeing 787 Dreamliners to offer service between the two cities. According to data from aviation analytics company Cirium for October 2024, these airlines are Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, United Airlines, and Norse Atlantic Airways.

British Airways: leading in flight frequencies

The British flag carrier offers the most flights between New York and London using its fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners. According to Cirium data, the airline offers flights to London (LHR) from two airports in New York, including Newark International Airport (EWR) and New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

The most popular and frequently operated route by British Airways
is between Newark (EWR) and JFK. In October 2024, the airline is offering 48 flights and a total of 12,288 seats on this route. Meanwhile, the route between JFK and LHR will be served 11 times in October 2024.

The British airline will deploy its larger capacity Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, of which it has 10 in its fleet at an average age of 2.8 years. According to ch-aviation data, the airline’s 787-10s can accommodate a total of 256 passengers in a four-class cabin configuration: eight in first class, 48 in business class, 35 in premium economy, and 165 in economy class.

A closer look at the remaining airlines

Three other airlines offer services between London and New York using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Chicago-based United Airlines
will operate ten scheduled flights from Newark International Airport (EWR) to London Heathrow (LHR) during the second month of autumn. Ten flights translate into 2,570 seats offered in October 2024.

The airline will deploy its Boeing 787-9 widebody, which can accommodate a total of 257 passengers in a four-class cabin layout: 48 in business class, 21 in premium economy, 29 in economy plus, and 149 in economy class.

Virgin Atlantic
is another British airline operating flights from New York to London with Boeing 787 Dreamliners. In October 2024, the British carrier will operate 29 scheduled flights from New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to London Heathrow (LHR). The airline will offer 7,482 seats on its Boeing 787-9 fleet.

As per ch-aviation, Virgin has a total of 17 Boeing 787-9s in its fleet with an average age of 8.6 years. The airline’s widebodies can seat up to 258 passengers in a three-class cabin configuration: 31 in business class, 35 in premium economy, and 192 in economy class.

The all-787 operator Norse Atlantic Airways also serves flights between New York and London. In October 2024, the airline will offer 29 scheduled services between New York (JFK) and London Gatwick Airport (LGW), providing a total of 9,802 seats. It is worth noting that the carrier’s 787-9s are economy class heavy. They accommodate 338 passengers in a two-class configuration: 56 in premium economy and 282 in economy class, according to ch-aviation.
