After a long absence, Frontier Airlines is returning to Patrick Leahy Burlington International Airport with weekly flights to Tampa and Orlando, Florida, Aviation Director Nic Longo announced at a press conference Tuesday morning.
“I am delighted to announce that Frontier Airlines will join us again at Leahy BTV,” Longo said.
Longo said Frontier will begin service on Dec. 20 with three flights weekly to Tampa and four flights weekly to Orlando, split between the two destinations seven days a week. The introductory fare is $49 one-way.
Frontier will directly compete with Breeze Airways with its Florida flights. Breeze began direct flights to Tampa and Orlando in January, later announcing it would be adding flights to Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina and Jacksonville, Florida. The announcement of additional destinations came one day before Breeze’s inaugural Tampa flight to Burlington on Feb. 1, 2024.
Then, in June 2024, Breeze said it was beginning a non-stop flight to Fort Myers on Florida’s Gulf Coast from Leahy BTV.
Longo said competition is “key” to the airline industry, and that Leahy BTV passengers will benefit from it.
“We already know the demand is there,” he said of flights to Florida from Burlington.
The total number of enplanements at Leahy BTV this year − the number of passengers boarding an airplane at the airport − is projected to be over 710,000, according to Longo. That’s the highest number since 2009, when there were 750,000 enplanements.
“This is a big win for our air travelers,” Longo said of Frontier returning to Leahy BTV.
