PHILADELPHIA (WKRC) – A man is suing an airline after he was allegedly given an extremely hot cup of tea that spilled, resulting in 3rd degree burns and disfiguration.

According to the lawsuit, 56-year-old Sean Miller received the tea on a Frontier Airlines flight from Myrtle Beach to Philadelphia on Sept. 20.

Adam S. Barrist, Miller’s lawyer, told Law&Crime, “The tea was provided to my client without a lid, filled to the absolute brim of the cup and at an excessively and unreasonably high temperature.”

“The tea spilled directly through Mr. Miller’s clothing, onto his genitalia. Due to the tightly-situated plane seat configuration, Mr. Miller was unable to get up from his seat after the spill and, instead, was trapped in agonizing pain while his body was being burnt.”

The lawsuit claimed that Miller was taken to the hospital when the plane landed before moving to a burn unit. Doctors determined that Miller had suffered 3rd degree burns and disfiguration scars on his genitals and legs, the suit said.

“Despite multiple letters sent to Frontier Airlines via FedEx overnight courier, I have received no communication, of any kind, back from Frontier Airlines, concerning, among other issues, the payment of my client’s past medical bills and payment for his ongoing treatment,” Barrist said.

He claimed the lack of communication prompted his client to open the lawsuit, which seeks over $150,000 for Miller’s medical expenses and additional issues from the incident (including nerve damage and psychological damage), according to the suit.

Law&Crime said that Frontier told the outlet that it does not comment on active lawsuits.
