A four-vehicle crash on Airline Highway near Windsor Street in St. John the Baptist Parish resulted in one fatality on critical injury LSP reports.
ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH, La. — A four-vehicle crash on Airline Highway near Windsor Street in St. John the Baptist Parish on Friday afternoon claimed the life of a Ponchatoula man, according to Louisiana State Police.
Thomas Mixon, 55, was driving a 2003 Toyota Tundra north on U.S. 61 around 4 p.m. when he attempted to change lanes to pass a 2022 Kia K5, police said. Mixon’s truck collided with a 2005 Toyota Tundra traveling in the adjacent lane, then struck the Kia before crossing into the southbound lanes and hitting a 2023 Dodge Durango.
Mixon, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The driver of the Durango, who was properly restrained, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital. The drivers of the 2005 Toyota and the Kia, as well as a passenger in the Kia, were properly restrained and were not injured.
Police said routine toxicology samples were taken from all drivers, and the crash remains under investigation.
