Copa Airlines, a member of the Star Alliance network, marked its 35th anniversary of nonstop service between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport. A celebratory event at MIA featured traditional Panamanian dance performances, remarks from local dignitaries, and the ceremonial departure of a MAX9 aircraft with a commemorative Panama-inspired livery, complete with a water cannon salute.

Since launching Miami service on December 1, 1989, Copa Airlines has grown to operate over 50 weekly flights from MIA, connecting travelers to more than 50 destinations across 32 countries. Miami was Copa’s first U.S. gateway, establishing a vital link between the United States and Latin America. The airline has played a key role in fostering cultural exchange and economic growth in the region.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava praised Copa Airlines’ contributions, noting its status as MIA’s ninth-busiest airline, serving over 800,000 passengers annually. Recognized for its reliability, Copa Airlines achieved an 89.46% on-time arrival rate in 2023, earning it the title of “Most Punctual Airline in Latin America” for the ninth time in a decade.

Travelers can continue to enjoy Copa Airlines’ award-winning service, with bookings available via copa.com, sales offices, or the call center.
