Qatar Airways is to restart flights to Syria after an absence of more than a decade, which began in 2011 due to the breakout of a devastating civil war that plunged the country into chaos.

On January 2, 2025, Qatar Airways confirmed that it will begin a thrice weekly service between Hamad International Airport (DOH) and Damascus International Airport (DAM) in Syria.

The move comes after the former president of Syria, Bashar al-Assad, was ousted by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and other opposition groups, including the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA).
