Kazakh airlines carry record 14.7mn passengers in 2024, marking 10.6% growth
Kazakh airlines reached a new milestone in 2024, carrying a record 14.7mn passengers, according to the National Statistics Bureau. This marks a 10.6% increase compared to 2023, when passenger numbers totaled 13.27mn.
The country’s air traffic surge is attributed to continued growth in both domestic and international flights. The Transport Ministry reported that Kazakhstan’s airports served a total of 30mn passengers in 2024, including those traveling on foreign carriers. International airlines account for about 50% of the market share, emphasizing the importance of global connectivity for Kazakhstan.
Air cargo traffic also saw substantial growth, rising by 17% year-on-year to reach 27,880 tons.
Kazakhstan’s international air network is extensive, with flights operating to 31 countries across 117 routes. The frequency of international flights has increased to 582 per week, compared to 484 in 2023.
Notable developments include the launch of 22 new international routes in 2024, including direct flights to Mumbai, Prague, Seoul, and Kuala Lumpur. Looking ahead, more destinations are expected to be added in 2025, with routes to Rome, Vienna, Morocco, and Shanghai planned.
Kazakhstan’s main airline fleet expanded last year with 10 new Airbus A320 family jets joining the Air Astana Group, which includes the national carrier and low-cost airline FlyArystan. The country’s airlines are set to add 18 more aircraft in 2025, including 8 for Air Astana / Fly Arystan, 7 for SCAT Airlines, and 5 for Qazaq Air.
