Summary

  • The new Gulfstream G600 costs $58.8 million, with incremental price increases since 2014.
  • Used G600 prices are minorly discounted, with rare listings starting at $49.75 million.
  • G600 has steep fixed and variable operating costs totaling around $1.45 million annually.

The Gulfstream G600 is approaching five years of active service since the first airframe was delivered in August 2019. Taking over from the best-selling G550, the G600 has proven to be an excellent addition to Gulfstream’s large-cabin portfolio. The 19-seater private jet is capable of handling long-range travel with ease, with a max range of 6,600 nautical miles, offering a luxury mode of international long-haul travel for those who can afford it.

But just how much does a Gulfstream G600 cost nowadays? If you plan on buying one brand-new, you’ll be shelling out almost $60 million, and, as the jet is still a relative newcomer to the game, a second-hand one won’t be that much cheaper than a new airframe.

New Gulfstream G600 price

According to AviatiorInsider, as of 2024, a brand-new Gulfstream G600 has a list price of $58.8 million. The jet’s price had incrementally gone up since it was first announced by Gulfstream in 2014 when it had a base list price of $54.4 million. At the time, this was a full $6 million cheaper than the cost of its predecessor, the G550.

By 2018, the list price had gone up to $57.9 million as it continued to impress operators. Buyers ordinarily invest in much of the equipment offered by manufacturers at additional cost, such as avionics systems, safety features, or cabin enhancements. This will generally add a non-trivial amount to the final bill—for example, a 2022 edition of Business and Commercial Aviation lists an ‘equipped’ G600 as costing $59.5 million.

The Gulfstream G600 has over 35 world records for destination city pairs.

Used price

Because the G600 is a fairly new aircraft, used airframes are quite rare, but they are out there. Unlike private jets that have been around for a while, the discount for a used G600 is relatively minor. A listing for a 2019 G600 on Controller EMEA with less than 1,000 flight hours is priced at $49.75 million, while a 2021 model with under 800 hours is listed for $49.95 million.

G600 fixed and operating costs

Owners of a G600 will still need deep pockets to keep the jet in operation. Owning a private jet comes with considerable fixed costs, such as storage, crew, and management, on top of the variable cost of actually operating it.

Fixed cost

As per ComparePrivatePlanes, it will cost owners an estimated $750,000 a year in fixed costs to keep a Gulfstream G600. A large chunk of this will be in crew fees, along with hangar storage, insurance and management costs. While the aircraft can be operated with just a crew of two pilots, in normal circumstances it would be staffed by four people.

Variable costs

Assuming an average of 450 flight hours per year, the variable costs of operating a G600 are estimated at another $700,000. This includes factors such as fuel, which will make up the lion’s share of variable costs, as well as maintenance checks, landing fees, and engine overhauls. This puts the G600’s hourly operating cost at around $5,200.

The G600 can ultimately complete segments faster than its rivals owing to its higher cruising speed of Mach 0.90. As such, Gulfstream claims the type holds the world record for fastest journeys for dozens of city pairings, such as London to Seattle in 8 hours and 40 minutes and Paris to Rio de Janeiro in 9 hours and 42 minutes.

Latest G600 news

The G600 was recently awarded steep-approach certification by the FAA, which will enable it to make landings at more airports with shorter runways or specific approach requirements, such as London City (LCY).

Last November, a Gulfstream G600 was used by Pratt & Whitney to complete the first fully sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) powered transatlantic flight between Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) and Farnborough Airport (FAB). In February 2023, Gulfstream delivered its 100th G600s, a milestone it reached in just three and a half years since the jet entered service.
