The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, met today, during his official visit to the Republic of Albania, with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of that country, Igli Hasani.

After the tete-a-tete meeting between Konaković and Hasani, a meeting was held between the delegations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania.

At the meeting, it was assessed that bilateral relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Albania are friendly, with no open questions. A firm commitment to maintaining and strengthening cooperation between the two countries was expressed.

“On that occasion, Konaković emphasized the importance of strengthening relations between the two countries and expressed his satisfaction that the opening of the BiH Embassy in Tirana will contribute to this. He expressed the hope that the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Sarajevo will also be opened soon. He informed the interlocutor about the current political situation in BiH after Decisions of the European Council on the opening of negotiations with BiH He reiterated BiH’s full and unequivocal commitment to EU membership is the importance of strengthening economic cooperation and trade between BiH and Albania. He added that the potentials of these two countries are complementary and that they can be used more and give a stronger impetus to the development of BiH and Albania,” the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH states.

Konaković expressed special gratitude to Albania, because it co-sponsored the resolution of the UN General Assembly on the International Day of Remembrance of the Genocide in Srebrenica in 1995.

Hasani emphasized the importance of European integration and assessed that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania can exchange experiences in areas where they are progressing and which are key to the process of accession to the European Union. He also referred to the importance of regional cooperation, especially when it comes to the Berlin process. He reiterated that Albania advocates for the intensification of cooperation with the countries of the Western Balkans in the field of illegal migration.

In the context of improving the cooperation between Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina, the introduction of direct airline Tirana – Sarajevo as a priority was discussed, as well as mutual support in the promotion of tourism during the summer in Albania and in the winter period in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The meeting discussed contractual relations between the two countries, regional cooperation, migrations, multilateral cooperation and mutual support for candidacies in international organizations, BHRT writes.
