On September 25 2024, the Venezuelan Government (through the Ministerio de Transporte, Spanish for Ministry of Transportation) announced that it halted all the commercial aviation operations to/from Chile for an indefinite period. This measure adds Chile to the Dominican Republic, Panama and Peru to the list of countries banned for operating by Venezuela.

The announcement was made by the INAC, Instituto Nacional de Aeronáutica Civil, (Spanish for National Civil Aeronautics Institute), who did not state any reason for this measure.

The Chilean media considered this as a response to the speech of the Chilean President, Gabriel Boric, the previous day in the United Nations General Assembly, qualifying Venezuela as a “dictatorship”.
