JetBlue Airways
is a major contender in the Caribbean
with several thousand flights each month. The airline connects the region from destinations along the East Coast, including its mainstay in New York. With Mint service on some routes, the carrier can set itself apart from other competitors as it is often the only airline to offer lie-flat seats unless another airline utilizes a widebody. JetBlue has not lost its grip in the Caribbean, as other carriers have sparked interest in the region in response to growing demand.
In the fiscal year ending 2023, US airlines collectively increased their seating capacity by nearly one million seats to Caribbean destinations. It came as demand
in several other regions appeared to plateau after a dramatic and extended surge following the ease of pandemic-related restrictions. JetBlue, however, has had to make some route cuts in an effort to save money. Despite reducing its seat capacity, the airline still has quite a presence in the region.
Here are JetBlue’s top five most-served Caribbean routes this month:
1
Orlando – San Juan
359 flights
According to aviation data and analytics provider Cirium, the most popular route JetBlue will operate this month is between Orlando International Airport (MCO)
and Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU)
in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The carrier has nearly 360 flights scheduled on the route, which covers an average distance of 1,189 miles.

- 178 flights from SJU to SJU
- The A320 will handle 338 frequencies
- The A321 will operate the remaining 21 flights
- A total of 58,860 seats will be offered

Caribbean Airlines also serves the route.
JetBlue’s non-Mint equipped A321s will be deployed between MCO and SJU. Nonetheless, the A320 will handle the majority of the frequencies. The route is especially popular considering JetBlue competes with two ultra-low-cost carriers (ULCCs) and one low-cost carrier (LCC). Frontier Airlines
, Spirit Airlines
, and Southwest Airlines
all offer service on the route. However, JetBlue will operate the most frequencies.
2
New York – Santiago
322 flights
The second most-served route journeys across 1,470 average miles between John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
and Cibao International Airport (STI), which serves Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. JetBlue has just over 320 frequencies scheduled on the route this month, offering 28,400 seats in each direction. Similar to MCO-SJU, JetBlue will utilize its A320s and non-mint A321s between the two destinations:
- 161 flights from JFK to STI
- 161 flights from STI to JFK
- The A320 will operate 200 flights
- The A321 will be utilized on 122 frequencies
- A total of 56,800 seats are offered

JetBlue does face competition between JFK and STI, considering JFK is also a hub for Delta Air Lines
. However, JetBlue will come on top in terms of the number of flights scheduled on the route. Delta will operate a total of 186 flights on the route – 93 in each direction. The Atlanta-based airline will utilize its A321neos and Boeing 737-900s between JFK and STI. The former will be used less – operating 74 frequencies – while the latter will handle 112 flights.
3
New York – San Juan
297 flights
Next up is JetBlue’s service between JFK and SJU, which covers an average distance of 1,597 miles. The airline has nearly 300 frequencies scheduled on the route, providing over 26,700 seats in each direction. Two different aircraft types will be deployed on the route, but there are three different seating configurations:
- 150 flights are scheduled from JFK to SJU
- 147 flights will operate from SJU to JFK
- The A320 will handle 78 flights
- The A321 will be deployed on 157 flights

Delta is the other competitor on the route, with 93 flights in each direction on the A321neo.
5
Fort Lauderdale – San Juan
239 flights
Rounding out the top five is JetBlue’s service between Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport (FLL)
and SJU. At an average distance of 1,046 miles, it is also the shortest route among the five other routes. The carrier will operate just under 240 flights between the two destinations:
- 120 flights from FLL to SJU
- 119 flights from SJU to FLL
- The A320 will handle all flights on the route except one
- The A321 is interestingly scheduled on only one flight from FLL to SJU on October 30th

Similar to MCO-SJU, JetBlue will compete with Frontier, Spirit, and Southwest on the route. However, JetBlue has the most market share as the other airlines only have between 30 and 65 frequencies scheduled this month.
