Japan Airlines on Monday (June 3) announced that it has entered into a codeshare agreement with IndiGo. This agreement will allow the Japanese carrier to expand its services to 14 destinations within IndiGo’s domestic network.

In a released statement by JAL, “IndiGo is expanding its portfolio of codeshare partnerships with this agreement with Japan Airlines. This phase of the partnership expands the choices available to Japan Airlines customers for journeys to/from Japan, using IndiGo’s extensive network in India.”

Currently, Japan Airlines operates flights from Tokyo to Delhi and Bengaluru. The airline offers daily flights to the national capital from Haneda Airport and thrice-weekly flights to Bengaluru from Narita Airport.

Through this partnership, Japan Airlines announced that it will establish an extensive network across India, covering major cities such as Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Kochi, Coimbatore, Thiruvananthapuram, Tiruchirappalli, Pune, Lucknow, Varanasi, and Goa, all of which will connect to JAL-operated flights. Additionally, the two carriers plan to expand their cooperation by having IndiGo codeshare on JAL-operated flights.

Abhijit DasGupta, Senior Vice President of IndiGo said that the partnership is set to provide seamless connectivity to support trade, commerce, and tourism between the two countries.

“Over time, we aim to broaden the geographic and reciprocal coverage of this relationship to further enhance travel opportunities for customers of both airlines,” DasGupta added.

“With this extensive network, travellers between India and Japan will be able to book their flights on a single ticket. In recent years, India has achieved remarkable economic growth, and the demand for air travel between Japan and India is higher than ever,” said Ross Leggett, Managing Executive Officer and Senior Vice President of Route Marketing at Japan Airlines.
