The City of Chico is working to sweeten the deal for potential commercial airliners considering laying roots down at the Chico Regional Airport.

The city council committed $500,000 to the revenue guarantee fund, $250,000 more than what was initially budgeted. $300,000 was also committed to terminal upgrades, like bringing on portable buildings for TSA.

“We’re getting a lot of support from towns around us for that Revenue Guarantee Fund. I think it’s going to be really positive for Chico,” said Chico Mayor Andrew Coolidge. “Also bringing flights to LA instead of San Francisco is going to be a really smart move especially because of the updates they have coming for the 2028 Olympics.”

Coolidge says the entire fund is now up to $2 million.

“The revenue guarantee is to sort of soften the first couple year losses that an airline will have it will encourage them to come in sooner,” said councilmember Tom Van Overbeek.
