magniX, a developer of electric propulsion systems for aviation, has announced the launch of a new battery line for electric and hybrid-electric aircraft, including eVTOLs and helicopters.

The new battery, called “Samson300”, features an energy density of 300 Wh/Kg and a battery life cycle of 1,000 full discharge cycles, as well as improved thermal runaway protection, active cooling during charging, and passive inflight cooling.

magniX also highlighted the possibility of integrating the new battery system, which has not yet been certified, with its existing line of electric propulsion systems.

Based in Everett, Washington, United States, magniX is a pioneer in the field of electric aviation and its systems have powered some of the early models of electric aircraft. This included the retrofitted Harbour Air DHC-2 Beaver seaplane which, in 2021, completed the first-ever fully electric commercial flight, as well as Eviation’s Alice all-electric prototype, the largest fully electric aircraft that has flown to date.
