Frontier Airlines is launching a new route from New York to Atlanta in August. The new service will operate daily.

Expanding in New York

Frontier Airlines announced its third route from John F. Kennedy International Airport today. Starting on August 13, the airline will begin connecting New York to Atlanta. Flights to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport will operate daily.

Frontier is one of the United States’ leading ultra-low-cost carriers and has announced several expansions in recent months. Unlike some airlines, Frontier is targeting routes flown by mainline carriers, hoping to draw customers with its lower prices. For the JFK-ATL route, flight prices start at $29, while Delta Air Lines operates the same flight for no less than $65.

Frontier recently made some changes to its offerings and policies, labeling itself The New Frontier. The most significant change was the airline getting rid of its change fees, something that many airlines in the US had already done. Now, Frontier provides more transparency through upfront pricing, which is a result of a ruling from the US Department of Transportation (USDOT), requiring airlines to be transparent about fees.

Onboard, Frontier introduced UpFront Plus, basically like European business class on narrowbody aircraft. For a higher cost, passengers can book seats in the first two rows of the aircraft where the middle seat is blocked and extra legroom is offered.

“We’re thrilled to announce this new service at JFK, offering area consumers affordable and convenient travel to Atlanta and beyond. With ‘The New Frontier’ consumers can easily see upfront when making a reservation what’s included in the fare and the exceptional value offered by flying Frontier.” – Josh Flyr, Vice President of Network and Operations Design, Frontier Airlines

In addition to the flight to Atlanta, Frontier is launching operations to Harry Reid International Airport on the same day. Flights to LAS will operate daily and fares currently start at $89.

Frontier is celebrating its 30th birthday this year, and as part of its birthday celebration, the airline is offering free carryon bags for select flights. Unfortunately, free carryon bags will only be offered for bookings made until 23:59 Eastern time today. The promotion is valid for flights from August 13 to November 19. A few days ago, Frontier also launched a sale called 100 Trips for Under $30. One hundred routes have flights starting at $29 one-way and the promotion also runs until the end of the day today.

Nonstop flights to San Juan

Frontier’s third route from JFK is to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The new route is meant to go head-to-head with JetBlue, and Frontier’s recent expansion announcement for San Juan made that evident. Flights launched on June 6 and have been operating twice daily since the 7th, using the Airbus A320neo and A321neo. Delta Air Lines also operates the route, and in August, will fly three daily roundtrips, while JetBlue will fly seven.
