Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett, has welcomed Avelo Airlines’ decision to introduce new direct flights between Hartford, Connecticut and Montego Bay, Jamaica.

The flights are scheduled to begin November 16 this year and and will operate twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Avelo Airlines is an ultra-low-cost carrier founded in 2021.

The full complement of the new services announced includes non-stop service from Bradley International Airport to seven new destinations and its first-ever international flights.

Alongside Montego Bay, Avelo will also launch flights to Cancun, Mexico, beginning November 20, 2024.

Minister Bartlett says Connecticut and the surrounding areas represent a major market for visitors to Jamaica.

He says the regions have a high concentration of Jamaica’s Diaspora, making the new service a vital link for families and friends.
