Summary

  • Two Delta Air Lines passengers took revenge after a long flight delay by wasting food and shampoo in an airport lounge.
  • Viral video shows the travelers stuffing food into their faces and snacks into their pockets.
  • One critic of their actions said the passengers were “acting like children.”

Two frustrated Delta Air Lines passengers recently decided to take revenge on the airline by loading their plates with food and wasting shampoo at an airport lounge. It occurred as the Atlanta-based carrier canceled over 5,000 flights due to complications spawned by a faulty CrowdStrike update last weekend.

The travelers documented their experience in a video on social media, garnering more than one million views. Although it was posted somewhat jokingly, it appears to have received some mixed reactions.

Delta Vengeance

Kyle Philippi shared the video on TikTok last week, titling it “Delta Vengeance.” The traveler alleged that Delta did not compensate “for thousands of dollars lost” after delaying his flight “for days.” In the video, Philippi and another passenger can be seen stuffing their faces and pockets with food and to-go snacks.

According to Inside Edition, Philippi was joined by Gary Keelan at a Delta Sky Club location at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). At one point, the video shows Philippi fully clothed in a shower with water running while he dispensed shampoo onto the floor. It is unclear exactly how long their flight delay was.

“We’ve lost so much money”

Although the CrowdStrike glitch affected nearly every airline worldwide, Delta had significant trouble as it worked to get its flights back online. Many carriers had already resumed their operations within 48 hours of the disruption, while Delta had canceled a year’s worth of flights during the time period. The complications led to an operational meltdown, which prompted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to launch an investigation.

Undoubtedly fed up by the meltdown, Philippi told Inside Edition that it motivated him to take over the lounge.

“We’ve lost so much money on the ground with transportation, with groceries that were already bought here…lodging…all the stuff on the ground that’s just wasted for days that we’re not here, I said, ‘We’re gonna get our money back in that lounge.’”

The destination Philippi and Keelan were traveling to or from is unknown, but the video suggests they may have been on a layover at ATL. It has since been liked by more than 142,000 TikTok users.

One person commented, “This is the level of petty we strive for.”

Another said, “As someone who has been completely wronged by Delta, thank you for your service!”

Philippi said that he “didn’t even WANT” some of the food, such as a chocolate chip cookie, but also replied to another comment that it was “for the people!” The video also showed the two using excessive amounts of hand sanitizer. However, the wasted wine seems to be the video’s top talker.

“The wine with no hesitation I’m screaming,” one commenter said.

Another person who received more than 19,000 likes for their comment said, “I won’t lie pouring the wine out went hard.”

Reactions from both sides

Others were not amused by the act and commented on Inside Edition’s report.

“Wasting food is never a good look,” one commenter explained.

“I understand being mad, but it’s still pretty wasteful to just run the water and waste the food.” another person said. “Using it would’ve been better.”

One more viewer said they felt “bad for the people who pay good money for the lounge” only to see travelers “acting like children.”

Despite the pushback, Philippi told Inside Edition he believes the act was not taken too far.

“First of all, I saw some businessmen that drank much more wine than I dumped, umm so I don’t think we went too far, I think they’re gonna be fine.”

Philippi also said he has not heard from Delta regarding the video. Nonetheless, he pleaded to the airline on TikTok to not take away his Sky Club membership.

“@Delta, please don’t revoke my pass. Love you bye.”

Simple Flying contacted Delta on Sunday for comment on the matter, but a representative could not be immediately reached.
