From September 15, the largest Chinese state airline AIR CHINA will start operating at Tbilisi International Airport with 3 frequencies per week.

According to the information of the Union of Georgian Airports, the airline will fly from Urumchi to Tbilisi with a BOENG 737-800 aircraft.

According to their own information, the Union of Georgian Airports held active negotiations with the airline within the aviation forum Routes Asia-2024. AIR CHINA representatives are in Tbilisi for a two-day visit and are holding meetings with all involved parties regarding the start of operations in the Georgian market.

According to information, at the presentation held at the central office of the Association of Airports of Georgia, the representatives of the airline company noted that after the bilateral implementation of the visa-free regime for the two countries, the interest in Georgia increased. According to Irakli Karkashadze, General Director of the Union of Airports, active negotiations are underway with Chinese airlines with AIR CHINA to start operating in Georgia with other Chinese destinations besides Urumqi.

“It is very important for us to have China’s largest airline like AIR CHINA on the market. They have 905 ships in their fleet, both BOENG and AIRBUS type ships. This is the second Chinese airline that will start operating on the Georgian air market. CHINA SOUTHERN AIRLINES started daily direct regular flights from Urumqi to Tbilisi after the introduction of visa-free traffic. In the first two quarters of 2024, the amount of direct and indirect passenger flow between Georgia and China amounted to 45,000 passengers. Which allows us to assume that by the end of the year, the passenger flow between our countries will be a record,” said Irakli Karkashadze.

According to their explanation, it was mentioned at the meeting that in the future the airline plans to start operations from Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Organized by the Association of Georgian Airports, Air China representatives visited Tbilisi International Airport, as well as the navigation tower.

A member of the Star Alliance, AIR CHINA, founded 69 years ago, is the largest airline of the People’s Republic of China. The airline operates direct flights to 183 countries of the world.
