Noida International Airport CEO Christoph Schnellmann has said that the airport has been garnering interest from both domestic and international airlines for international flight operations, The Indian Express reported.

As per Schnellmann, domestic airlines have already signed up for operations from the airport. This includes IndiGo and Akasa Air. These airlines are not only keen for domestic flights but also international ones.

Schnellmann mentioned that the NIA is currently in discussions with Air India and various domestic and international airlines to commence flight operations from the airport. This airport will become the second major hub in the National Capital Region, following Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).

The terminal, which is still under construction, is being developed as an integrated facility for both domestic and international flights, ensuring that it will be equipped for international operations from day one.

Operations to start in April 2025

The airport, currently under construction, is now expected to begin commercial operations in April 2025, marking a delay from the initially planned timeline of late 2024. This extension is attributed to delays in the delivery of certain construction materials and equipment, caused by global supply chain disruptions.

To meet the new timeline, all the stakeholders are now working collectively.

The majority of the runway construction at the new airport is nearly finished, with calibration flights by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) slated for September-October. Validation flights for the airport’s approach and departure procedures are scheduled for December.

In its first phase, the NIA will feature one runway and one terminal, with the capacity to handle 12 million passengers annually. Upon completion of the fourth phase, the airport will be capable of managing 70 million passengers per year.
