New Delhi: Edelweiss CEO Radhika Gupta took to social media to speak of the food served on flights. She also asked airlines to consider Indian breakfast options for early flyers instead of sandwiches. The post grabbed the attention of many. Netizens agreed with Gupta’s point of view.

The former Shark Tank judge asked airlines to start being creative and ditch boxed food items such as sandwiches for healthier Indian options. In her post, Gupta also referenced Indian moms who turned leftover sabzis to make tasty paratha rolls.

She wrote, “I am calling for an end to airlines and makers of boxed food who serve two pieces of bread stuffed with cheese and coleslaw (veg sandwich) in the name of breakfast.” Gupta added, “This is India not the West. We have amazing breakfast food from across the country – parantha, idlis, dhoklas, and countless others – that are healthy, tasty, affordable and have shelf life.” She ended the post stating, “Spare us the sandwich. We can do better.”

Many netizens shared their thoughts on the matter. They sided with Gupta and suggested that it was high time that Indian airline services should try to experiment. Meanwhile, many others criticised the food served on flights and even said it was better to skip it.

“Most plane food tastes like warm plastic. There is a big market to be captured by someone who can creatively address this issue,” wrote one. Another shared an image of a meal served on a Vistara flight featuring eggs, paratha and a few other Indian snacks.
