JetBlue Airways has replaced hot meals with chilled items on its transatlantic economy class menu. This change comes as the New York-based airline aims to ensure that they “can continue to provide a great experience at JetBlue’s competitive fares on these routes.”

The new menu for its core (economy) passengers was created in partnership with DIG, an American chain of locally farm-sourced restaurants. According to the airline, the new and tested ‘vegetable-forward’ menus will feature seasonal, farm-to-table ingredients.

Four new menus are available for passengers traveling overseas. Each menu offers different meals, all served chilled. All menus include a main dish and a side dish. Selections from these menus include pesto pasta salad, overnight oats, chicken grain bowl, or kale apple salad, among other meals. In an emailed statement to Nexstar, a spokesperson for JetBlue
said:

“The menu, created in partnership with DIG, lives up to the standard we set for high-quality meals. This change is part of our effort to ensure we can continue to provide a great experience at JetBlue’s competitive fares on these routes.”

Meanwhile, passengers traveling transatlantic in business class JetBlue Mint
section can still enjoy hot meals, with options like pizza, pasta, chicken, eggs, and crepes, depending on the route.

JetBlue’s transatlantic network

It has been just three years since JetBlue decided to go transatlantic as part of the carrier’s effort to disrupt transatlantic air travel by offering lower airfares on narrowbody aircraft. The New York-based airline launched its first transatlantic flights from New York (JFK) to London Heathrow (LHR) and Gatwick (LGW) airports back in 2021.

Since then, the carrier has held many ribbon-cutting ceremonies to introduce additional European destinations to its transatlantic network. The carrier now operates its transatlantic network from its two major bases: New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).

Naturally, JetBlue’s largest transatlantic route network operates from its primary base at New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

The European routes from its JFK base include:

  • JFK to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)
  • JFK to
    London Heathrow Airport

    (LHR)

  • JFK to London Gatwick Airport (LGW)
  • JFK to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS)
  • JFK to Dublin Airport (DUB)
  • JFK to Edinburgh Airport (EDI)

It is worth noting that the most frequently serviced transatlantic corridors are the lucrative JFK to LHR and JFK to CDG routes. The carrier operated 62 monthly flights from New York (JFK) to London Heathrow (LHR), offering 8,556 seats in August 2024, as per Cirium data.

Meanwhile, the European routes from its BOS base include:

  • BOS to Amsterdam Schipchol Airport (AMS)
  • BOS to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)
  • BOS to Dublin Airport (DUB)
  • BOS to London Heathrow Airport (LHR)
  • BOS to London Gatwick Airport (LGW)
