Delta Air Lines Celebrates One Year Of Its Joint Venture With LATAM

Six routes have been announced since the launch of the joint venture, with two already in operation.

2 years on

More than 32,000 flights were operated, and more than 5 million passengers were carried. The Delta-LATAM partnership has allowed the two airlines to expand their operations significantly, not least because of their codeshare agreement, which grants each airline access to hundreds of direct and one-stop destinations.

Soledad Berrios, Director of Strategic Alliances at the LATAM group said:

“The aforementioned capacity growth, combined with the more than 200 destinations offered by Delta in the United States and Canada and the more than 120 offered by LATAM in South America (Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay), makes the Joint Venture play a fundamental role in connecting the region, offering the largest and most diverse network in terms of destinations and travel options.”.

Those that have traveled with the two carriers have covered a combined distance of more than 110 million miles according to Delta, exceeding the distance from the Earth to the Sun. Alex Antilla, Vice-President for Latin America at Delta said:

“Celebrating two years of our Delta-LATAM Joint Venture, we are proud not only of the record 68% increase in flights and the fruitful partnership we have established with LATAM, but above all of the trust that 5 million customers have placed in the world-class and dedicated service we strive to provide every day. Together, we are not just connecting the two continents – we are redefining the travel journey. As we continue to expand and innovate, our vision is clear: to be the preferred airline partnership for passengers flying between North and South America, delivering unmatched experiences for every traveler.”

Separately, building on their relationship, Delta announced this summer that it would extend its Corporate Priority benefits program to LATAM Airlines customers, too.

Expansion

Two key achievements were reached during the second year of the JV. In particular, new flights to Ecuador were incorporated into the partnership’s network. Since receiving final approval in 2022, the partnership has added six new routes, listed as follows.

Operated by Delta:

Operated by LATAM:

  • Bogotá (BOG) to Orlando (MCO)
  • São Paulo (GRU) to Los Angeles (LAX)
  • Santiago (SCL) to Orlando (MCO), seasonal
  • Quito (UIO) to Miami (MIA)

Two of the routes are operated by LATAM Airlines.

Other routes, including Atlanta to Bogotá offered by Delta and LATAM’s Lima to Atlanta connection, also benefitted from additional frequencies.

The partnership has also allowed passengers on the two airlines to enjoy improved travel experiences at key airports. This includes a more “expedited check-in process, being able to check their luggage to the final destination, as well as shared terminals in New York-JFK, São Paulo, Brazil, and Santiago, Chile, optimizing the time for connecting passengers.”

The two companies hinted at further expansion, saying that they expect to continue announcing new routes in the coming months.
