Aerolíneas Argentinas is looking to have the strongest summer season in its history this December 2023 and January 2024, making up to 3.34 million seats available and a route map that includes 183 weekly international flights to 20 destinations between the Americas and Europe. Let’s take a look at Aerolíneas’ plan.

Increasing connectivity

The Argentinian state company announced this week its expanded offer for the first two quarters of 2024, unveiling significant updates, including some new routes, such as the one connecting Córdoba (COR) in Argentina with Asunción (ASU) in Paraguay.

For the coming summer season (in the Southern Hemisphere), Aerolíneas Argentinas will offer 3.34 million seats, representing a 9% increase versus 2023 and an 8% increase versus 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. For the entire 2024, Aerolíneas Argentinas will offer 14.76 million seats, a 12% increase from 2023 and a 19% increase from 2019.

Pablo Ceriani, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Aerolíneas Argentinas, said in a statement,

“We are closing an excellent year with a record number of passengers and aiming for an even better 2024. We are flying more and more, doing it more efficiently without using the budget allocated by the state for this year. And we did it, moreover, having incorporated a fleet and making investments in various strategic areas.”

The international connectivity

Aerolíneas Argentinas’ international summer network will see increases in several routes connecting to regional destinations. The company will operate flights from Córdoba to Río de Janeiro (GIG) and Florianópolis (FLN), serving these two routes three times a week. Aerolíneas will also operate twice-weekly flights from Mendoza (MDZ) to Rio de Janeiro and one daily from Buenos Aires to Florianópolis.

Additionally, an extra weekly flight will be added to Cancun (increasing from four to five), Punta Cana will be increased from three to four, and Salvador de Bahía, with five weekly flights, will switch to operating with Airbus 330. It’s also worth noting the start of flights Montevideo–Bariloche and Montevideo–Mar del Plata, both with two weekly flights.

Finally, starting in April, Aerolíneas Argentinas will introduce the route Córdoba-Asunción, with two weekly frequencies on Tuesdays and Saturdays. That month, Aerolíneas will also increase the connectivity to Lima (LIM) from seven weekly flights to ten, Bogotá (BOG) from seven to ten, Porto Alegre (POA) from six to 12, Asunción from ten to 14, Santiago de Chile (SCL) from 24 to 26, and Curitiba (CWB) from four to six. And the route from Buenos Aires to Porto Seguro (BPS), which had been canceled in 2019, will be resumed.

How has the international market been for Aerolíneas in 2023

Between January and October 2023, Aerolíneas Argentinas carried 2.37 million international passengers. That’s an 83% recovery versus pre-COVID numbers. However, in October 2023, the recovery reached 92%. The overall goal is to reach three million international passengers by the end of 2023 (versus the 3.3 million in 2019).

Aerolíneas Argentinas is offering international flights to 20 destinations in 2023. It operates 70 weekly flights to Brazilian destinations (Porto Alegre, Florianópolis, Curitiba, Sao Paulo, Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, and Salvador de Bahía). Other destinations include Madrid (11 weekly flights), Rome (five), Miami (ten), New York City (three), plus nine destinations across Latin America.
