When asked why the airshow is important for the aerospace industry and the UK, Rogers highlighted the appeal of the event among the global audience and the major deals that have been signed at the show over the last several years. He said,

“You know, it brings people from around the world, around 70% of the visitors are global, but it demonstrates the leadership for the UK. It’s a change agent. It kind of powers innovation. But if you just look at the pure numbers, you know, I think if you look at the last 10 years, I think it’s $510 billion worth of deals have been done at the Farnborough Airshow.

“And, you know, that’s five shows, but actually it’s not five shows. It’s four shows because one of them didn’t happen. So, you know, and obviously a lot of that goes into the UK supply chain.”

What to expect this year?

The 2022 Farnborough International Airshow was slightly muted in comparison to previous years due to the lingering effects of COVID, but expectations are already high this year.

Of course, all the major players in the aerospace industry will be present, such as Airbus, Boeing, Rolls-Royce, RTX, formerly Raytheon, GKN, and GE Aviation, among others. Apart from the major business deals that are expected to take place at the event, there will also be conversations around key issues in the industry, such as sustainability and urban air and the regulations surrounding it.

Rogers also busted the myth that aerobatic dynamic displays cannot be held at Farnborough. He said that the Boeing F-15 display team will perform a clean and dirty display, and the Royal Danish Air Force is also scheduled to perform.
