Avelo Airlines is establishing a regional base at Bradley International Airport, adding seven new nonstop routes from Connecticut to locations including Mexico and Jamaica, the company announced.

It’s the largest route expansion in the airline’s history, said Avelo CEO Andrew Levy. Avelo already has a regional base of operations at Tweed-New Haven Airport, which is the company’s largest and employs more than 250 people.

Levy, the company’s founder who also serves as chairman, visited the Connecticut state Capitol on Wednesday to announce the Bradley expansion with Gov. Ned Lamont and other local legislators. Avelo will begin flights out of Bradley in November, Levy said, with new nonstop service to: Cancún, Mexico; Montego Bay, Jamaica; Houston, Texas; Charlotte, North Carolina; Wilmington, North Carolina; Daytona Beach, Florida; and Orlando/Lakeland, Florida.

With the addition of the new nonstop flights, Avelo will serve 33 nonstop routes from Connecticut, the airline said. The trips to Mexico and Jamaica are the company’s first international routes.

Levy said the expansion will create 80 new jobs, and Avelo with station two of its airplanes at Bradley.
