In North Carolina, Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) is the leading international airport serving the state and is located around 6 miles (9.7 kilometers) west of the Charlotte city center.

The airport is the primary airport for commercial and military operations in the area and is operated by the Charlotte Aviation Department. Established in 1935, the airport was initially known as Charlotte Municipal Airport.

It was later named Douglas Municipal, after Ben Elbert Douglas Sr, who was the mayor of Charlotte when the airport was initially built. In 1982, the airport was renamed to reflect its international status, Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

Through its merger with American Airlines, Charlotte is home to an extensive network of operations for American Airlines. American is the largest operator at the airport, so it’s no surprise that CLT is home to several Admirals Club lounges.
