German flag carrier Lufthansa has reopened its lounge at Newark airport following a significant renovation. The redeveloped lounge takes style cues from the airline’s flagship Allegris cabins for a spacious experience at the New York City-area airport.

Back in style

The Lufthansa Lounge at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) closed last year for the renovation work to turn it into the airline’s first Allegris lounge. Located near gate 60 in Concourse B3 of Terminal B, the space is finally open for travelers to enjoy between 14:15 and 21:30 daily.

According to Lufthansa station manager Mark Suhr, the project was started a long time ago but halted by Covid and is finally finished. The space offers more seating, more comfort, a better food & beverage offering, and an overall better look, with Suhr noting:

“At Lufthansa we say “yes” to a premium lounge experience.”

Based on photos shared on Suhr’s LinkedIn, the redeveloped space features a warm ambiance with earth tones and wood features throughout.

While the lounge was closed, Lufthansa passengers flying to Frankfurt could use the United Club Lounge and United Polaris Lounge in Terminal C with a connecting shuttle service to Terminal B, while passengers traveling to Munich could use the SAS Lounge in Terminal B.

What is inside?

The entrance check-in desk welcomes passengers to the lounge with a paneled backdrop featuring the Lufthansa logo and Welcome, written in both English and German.

Further inside, the dining area received a welcomed overhaul and now features more inviting textures. A buffet runs along one side, and the seating options have been expanded to feature a combination of both chairs and benches for travelers.

Not to be outdone, the bar space has also been redesigned to provide an elegant atmosphere. A central u-shaped bar area features a selection of drinks on tap and classics, along with several thoughtful design touches. Most immediately noticeable is the large wine rack of artfully arranged bottles reaching up towards the ceiling.

The airline has created more distinct spaces for those looking to work. Couches, swiveling chairs, and workstations extend beyond the dining area to the windows, which offer excellent views of the tarmac. There is even a conference table available for larger groups. There is also an area specifically for first class customers travelling on the Star Alliance airline.

The Newark lounge opening comes as Lufthansa expands its US presence significantly. This summer, the carrier launched three new routes with flights to Raleigh Durham (RDU), Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), and Seattle-Tacoma (SEA). The airline is also one of the few carriers still operating both the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747 on routes to the United States.
