Avelo Airlines helped a young traveler overcome his fear of flying by making him an honorary crewmember. The young boy performed his duties as a member of the cabin crew and even got to meet a special celebrity guest.
Five-year-old faces fear of flying
Five-year-old Jack Marra comes from Savannah, Georgia, and has flown dozens of times without any problems. However, after experiencing turbulence on a flight around a year ago with a different airline, Jack developed a fear of flying, making it difficult for him to visit family over the holidays.
Jack’s mother, Kylah Marra, said,
“My son has been on over 40 planes but about 10 flights ago, he had a terrible experience. Jack became terrified, he almost wouldn’t fly home because the flight was so bad. He cried and wouldn’t let go of me, and I had to hold him with my leg wrapped over him to make him feel safe. It’s terrible and breaks my heart.”

Kylah showed Jack stories and reels from Avelo Airlines’ social media channels, which soon ignited his interest in aviation. Within a couple of weeks, Jack was begging his mom to get him on a flight, specifically one with Avelo. On Monday, Jack and his family boarded an Avelo Airlines flight from Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV) to Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) en route to visit family for Thanksgiving.
Honorary Junior Crewmember
Avelo’s team decided to do something special for Jack’s return by naming him an honorary Junior Crewmember, complete with official badge. Jack performed duties with his fellow flight attendants, even scanning in passengers during boarding at the departure gate, before visiting the pilots in the cockpit.
Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy said,
“At Avelo, our purpose is to Inspire Travel, and Jack’s story exemplifies the life-changing difference Avelo’s caring Soul of Service can have. I hope tonight’s flight motivates Jack to be a lifelong Avelo Customer and inspires him to continue pursuing his passion for aviation. It is an honor to call Jack a fellow Avelo Crewmember.”
Jack also had the chance to meet Savannah Banana baseball and TikTok star Jackson Olson, who joined as his official celebrity guest for the flight. After the flight touched down in Connecticut, Jack was greeted by his family and fellow Avelo crew members.
Dogs meet travelers at Eugene Airport
Traveling over the Thanksgiving period can be a stressful experience for even the most veteran airline passengers. With this in mind, Avelo arranged for some of its lucky passengers to have some furry company before their journey.

As reported by Kezi, four comfort dogs – Huckleberry, Jiminy Cricket, Maya, and Walter – mingled with Avelo Airlines passengers at Eugene Airport (EUG) waiting for their flight to Los Angeles. The dogs are part of an organization called FETCH (Friends Eager To Come Help), a local dog therapy provider.
From an operational perspective, Avelo has been doing its part to keep passenger stress levels down too. Over the first ten months of 2023, the carrier has managed the best on-time performance (82.8%) and the lowest cancelation rate in the US airline industry. It also allows all passengers to change or cancel bookings at no extra charge. With a 57% increase in capacity over this Thanksgiving period compared to last year, Avelo will hope to keep its impeccable reliability record up.
