Last month, American Airlines, in collaboration with Stand Up To Cancer (SUC2), launched its annual campaign to raise funds for life-changing cancer research, and as the words suggest, it is inviting passengers to donate to the cause. Until September 30, 2024, customers will receive 25 AAdvantage bonus miles for every dollar they donate of $25 or more to SU2C.

A worthy cause needs help

In addition to that bonus, anyone who contributes between $25 and $10,000 using their AAdvantage Mastercard credit card will receive 50 AAdvantage bonus miles per dollar through September 30, or until $3 million has been donated, whichever comes first. To give more visibility to the cause, American Airlines (American) is launching a limited-edition specialty amenity kit designed in collaboration with sustainable fashion brand Raven + Lily.

This week, American announced that the new amenity kits will start appearing in the coming weeks, becoming the second limited-edition specialty kit in a series of rotating amenities the airline introduced earlier this year. Passengers traveling in premium cabins on Flagship long-haul international and transcontinental flights will receive the new amenity kits featuring new skincare brands and products.

Through the generosity of customers and team members, American has supported SU2C and its life-saving cancer research since 2016. Since then, those efforts have raised more than $20 million, and in 2019, American debuted a campaign that allowed those who donated the chance to honor a loved one by including their name on an Airbus A321 aircraft wrapped in a special SU2C livery.

American Airlines Chief Communications and Marketing Officer Ron DeFeo said cancer affects countless lives, including many of our team members and their loved ones, adding that the eight-year partnership with Stand Up To Cancer has become an important part of the airline.

“It truly allows us to live out our purpose of caring for people on life’s journey while supporting Stand Up’s vital mission of advancing life-saving research.”

What’s on offer in the kits

Passengers have the opportunity to pay it forward, as every amenity kit contains a QR code that makes it easy for them to donate to SU2C. They will also be introduced to new designers and skincare brands that have never been on an American flight, so there is something new for premium passengers to look forward to in the next few weeks.

The design of the colorful and distinctive kits came from a collaboration between American, sustainable fashion brand Raven + Lily and the CU2C team. They feature the well-known red, orange, yellow and black colors of CU2C and its logo, and customers will likely make use of the attractive kits long after their flight.

The kits feature skincare brands Macabalm and Pholk Beauty. Launched in 2019, Pholk Beauty is a Black woman-owned beauty brand working with Black farmers across the Southern US, Africa and the Caribbean. In all kits is Pholk’s hand lotion, a vegan, multi-tasking, lightweight lotion that hydrates and smooths the skin with lasting moisture that won’t clog pores. First-class passengers also receive the Pholk facial mist, which is deeply hydrating, soothing and rich in Vitamin C.

Macabalm is a female-founded and Australian-made brand pushing the boundaries of natural organic skin care. According to the American announcement, Macabalm lip balm, which is in all kits, can hydrate lips, soften hands and cuticles, eliminate dryness, tame eyebrows, highlight cheekbones and temples, soothe irritations and protect the skin barrier thanks to hero ingredients such as shea butter, rosehip and jojoba.

The limited-edition amenity kits first appeared in May this year and featured beauty retailer Thirteen Lune to mark the introduction of American’s reimagined onboard experience. The airline collaborates with Thirteen Lune to curate new skincare offerings throughout the year, providing customers with more variety and choice in onboard products than previously available.

The full-service carrier is launching more limited-edition specialty kits to mark specific milestones and new initiatives in the future. American said the kits will reflect the values and backgrounds of the airline’s customers and team members.
