On Monday, October 7th, FlyUSA revealed that it recently completed an empty leg flight from Florida to North Carolina that was full of crucial supplies. The supplies, which include food and other essentials, will be distributed to communities across North Carolina. This region of the United States was devastated by the recent hurricane, Hurricane Helene, that made landfall on Thursday, September 26th. This region is still greatly affected by power outages and flooding and is in need of supplies for residents across the state.

Hurricane Helene was a category-4 hurricane that reached the Gulf Coast of Florida on Thursday, September 26th. In the following days, the storm would carve an 800-mile path across the Southeastern United States, affecting states like Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee, among others.

The storm devastated many of the communities located within these states due to the resulting storm surge, high winds, and excessive rain. This led to flooding that washed out roads and overtook buildings, resulting in many residents of these communities without food, water, or electricity. The storm also knocked out many cell towers, making communication between residents and rescue teams difficult. Overall, over 200 people have been found deceased due to the storm, according to the Associated Press, making it the deadliest mainland hurricane since Hurricane Katrina hit the Southeastern United States in 2005.

Many companies have provided supplies and assistance to these communities. One of these is FlyUSA, a charter flight and fractional-ownership providing company that is based in Tampa, Florida, another region that was affected by Hurricane Helene. FlyUSA recently completed an empty leg flight from its headquarters in Tampa, Florida, to Greensboro, North Carolina, that included critical supplies to nearby communities.

The Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FlyUSA, Barry Shevlin, spoke about the recent flight. He told Simple Flying,

“We are grateful to be part of this effort and remain committed to supporting those impacted by natural disasters. Our thoughts are with the families and communities affected by Hurricane Helene.”
