Delta Premium Select (DPS) was introduced by the Atlanta-based carrier in 2017 as a bridge between economy and Delta One. Since then, several enhancements have been made to the cabin, including a few innovative touches over the last year.

Evolving swiftly

The initiative was initially launched by Delta Air Lines on a range of transpacific and transatlantic services. However, it has since expanded to several other routes and planes.

Passengers can now fly Premium Select on all transpacific and the majority of transatlantic flights. Notably, last year, a revamped cabin experience was introduced to complement the spacious seat design.

Revisions included an upgraded dining experience with greater options and the infusion of local flavors. A new amenity kit by Someone Somewhere with a plush blanket, hand towels, lip balm, a memory foam pillow, and noise-canceling headsets, was also a key addition.

These enhancements combine with a wider seat with more recline. Customers can also enjoy the adjustable foot and leg rests.

A word from the airline

Simple Flying took the opportunity to chat with Delta’s VP of Brand Experience, Mauricio Parise, at the World Aviation Festival in Lisbon last week. A major talking point was the positive response to the Premium Select Cabin. The airline is truly reaping the benefits of years of planning by enhancing the onboard product.

Parise shared:

“It’s pretty amazing. The decision to expand the cabin was made before the pandemic, which was a heavy investment. But this notion to be able to spend a little bit more money – not quite as much in business class – to enjoy a better experience, is being very well received. If you think back to just 10-15 years ago, the gap between the main cabin and business class, from a pricing perspective, main this aspiration unattainable,

“We of course have Comfort Plus, but there’s still a gap of product price from Comfort Plus to business class with Delta One. DPS is hitting that gap. It is like domestic first class, and we’re aligning the product to make sure it’s aligning to make sure it feels as such.”

More to come

Delta is anticipating the arrival of several widebodies in the coming years. It already had 32 Airbus A330s and A350s on order. Still, ch-aviation.com currently states that 15 A330-900neos and six A350-900s are to be delivered.

Parise noted that these aircraft will be packed with a diverse range of passengers in the Delta Select cabin. He stated:

“There are a lot of leisure customers, some corporate customers, and high load factors – particularly to Europe and Asia Pacific – and we’ll keep growing. All those planes we’ll be receiving next year will be coming with DPS.”

Parise concluded that this style of class is a trend that started with Delta approximately 15 years ago with Economy Comfort. Delta has evolved its offering into Premium Select, and as he puts it; “It’s all over the industry, and it’s here to stay.”
