While aviation geeks can generally recognize aircraft by design and type, many others remember jets based on their color scheme. Commercial and private operators aim to apply unique color schemes to their jets for when it’s time to stand out at airports and in the skies above.

A lot goes into designing a livery for a commercial airliner. However, private jet owners may leverage their personal choices when selecting livery and color schemes. Owners with creative minds develop unique color schemes that are generally unheard of. One such creative owner of a Gulfstream GV chose a unique color scheme, loosely depicting shades of an aesthetic pearl.

Painted by Battle Creek, Michigan-based Duncan Aviation, the paint job is one of the company’s most complex colors ever completed. The aircraft is owned and operated by SEXYJet LLC, a luxury private aircraft charter company owned by US entrepreneur Mark Bonfigli. The aircraft, registration N888XY, features a two-tone pearlized paint. A technical sales representative at Duncan Aviation, George Baji, expressed his excitement about the latest and one of the most complex paint projects undertaken by the company by stating,

“The unique and stylish paint scheme applied to this Gulfstream GV will unquestionably make it one of the most eye-catching aircraft in the world.”

The unique paint job

The color scheme of the Gulfstream V was part of the multi-million dollar refurbishment program carried out on the Gulfstream V at Duncan Aviation. The technicians at Duncan Aviation spent months bringing the design from paper to reality on the Gulfstream GV aircraft. The two-tone aesthetic pearl design is a mixture of multiple discrete shades. The topper coat included the Axalta Chromaulion’s Perfect Jade, which is unique in its “color-changing” appearance. Design and paint technicians at Duncan Aviation spent more than 3,000 labor hours bringing the eye-catching color scheme to life. The technicians were also assisted by the owner’s personal designer, who ensured that what was imagined was produced. George Bajo further commented,

“Of course, a design on paper goes nowhere without an extremely talented team of paint technicians who can bring it to life. In this case, through more than 3,000 hours of hard, physical labor, our paint team created a stunning paint scheme that will make a statement everywhere it goes.”
