Another significant widebody aircraft order has been announced at the ongoing Dubai Airshow. EgyptAir has announced an order for 10 Airbus A350-900 planes as it looks to take advantage of the modern fuel-efficient aircraft in the coming years.

Order for 10 Airbus A350s

EgyptAir has announced that it has ordered 10 Airbus A350-900 aircraft at the 2023 Dubai Airshow. The agreement was signed in the presence of the airline’s Chairman and CEO Yehia Zakaria and Airbus CCO Christian Scherer. Zakaria commented,

“EGYPTAIR has firmed up an agreement with Airbus to procure 10 A350-900 aircraft, each boasting a capacity of 340 seats. These aircraft come equipped with cutting-edge technologies and Rolls-Royce XWB Trent engines, known for their modern design and reduced fuel emissions and consumption. As we tackle growing demand across our network, this aircraft is the optimal choice.”

Flagship aircraft

EgyptAir is no stranger to Airbus widebody aircraft. It currently operates a bunch of Airbus A330 jets for both passenger and cargo operations, but once the A350s arrive, they will become the flagship aircraft of the carrier, according to Scherer.

He believes that the A350 will be quite instrumental in opening new opportunities for the carrier “particularly in Western US and the far East.” Along with the A330s, EgyptAir also operates several Boeing widebodies for most of its long-haul routes.

This is another win for the Airbus A350 plane, which has become increasingly popular with most major long-haul airlines across the globe, with more than 1,000 orders.

The A350 is the one of world’s most efficient widebody aircraft in the 300–410-seater category, for routes up to 9,700nm. Airbus highlights that its state-of-the-art technologies, aerodynamics, lightweight materials and latest generation engines give it a 25% advantage in fuel burn, operating costs and CO₂ emissions. It is also 50% less noisy compared to aircraft of the previous generation.

EgyptAir fleet

EgyptAir operates a mix of narrowbody and widebody aircraft from both Airbus and Boeing. Per ch-aviation, it has a total of 81 aircraft in its fleet, of which 66 are currently in active service. Its fleet includes 12 Airbus A220s, three A320ceos, eight A320neos, seven A321neos, nine A330s (including a freighter), 29 Boeing 737s, six B777-300ERs, and seven B787-9s.
