While it’s no surprise that Air Canada, the nation’s flag carrier, currently operates to the most long-haul destinations from Montreal, Air Transat also provides a robust network across the Atlantic Ocean to various European ports. Let’s dig a bit deeper and see who flys where:
Africa, Asia, and the Middle East
Those looking to take a flight to Africa, Asia, or a Middle Eastern hub have a growing list of destinations to pick from, with frequent flights from Montreal to Algiers (Air Algérie), Amman (Royal Jordanian), Casablanca (Royal Air Maroc, and Air Canada), Delhi (Air Canada), Doha (Qatar Airways), Dubai (Emirates), Cairo (Air Canada, seasonally), Istanbul (Turkish Airlines), Marrakesh (Air Transat, starting June 12th), Tel Aviv (Air Canada, but currently suspended). Emirates only launched a direct flight to Montreal this year, marking its second Canadian gateway after Toronto.
Europe
Long-haul to Europe is on many people’s bucket list, with a cluster of so many cultures within a short distance. Montreal is no different, with an extensive range of European connections. With the province of Quebec being predominantly French-speaking, it’s no surprise that France is very well served with year-round or seasonal flights to most French cities.
Air Canada
Connects YUL year-round with Barcelona, Brussels, Frankfurt, Geneva, Lisbon, London–Heathrow, Lyon, Madrid (beginning May 1st), Milan–Malpensa, Paris–Charles de Gaulle, Rome–Fiumicino, Toulouse. Seasonal operations include flights to Algiers, Amsterdam, Athens, Copenhagen, Dublin, Nice, Reykjavík–Keflavík, and Stockholm–Arlanda (beginning June 12th).
Air France
Shuttles passengers between Montreal and Paris Charles de Gaulle daily, with this increasing to double daily in peak times. Once upon a time, the Air France A380 served the route.

Air Transat
While mainly seasonal, Montreal’s second-largest long-haul carrier operates various flights across the Atlantic. Year-round connections include Lisbon, London Gatwick, Marseille, and Paris Charles de Gaulle. Seasonal flights head towards Amsterdam, Athens, Barcelona, Basel, Bordeau, Brussels, Madrid, Nantes, Nice, Porto, Rome Fiumicino, Toulouse and Venice.
Austrian, Lufthansa, and Swiss
All working together, the group serves Montreal from their respective hubs, Vienna, Munich, and Zurich. LH also adds extra flights to Frankfurt in peak time.
Corsair International
While this connection is only seasonal, Corsair connects Paris Orly over the summer.

TAP Air Portugal
The Portuguese carrier sends its Airbus A321 across the Atlantic Ocean to Montreal four times a week, providing a third carrier to pick from when heading to Portugal, complementing Air Transat and Air Canada, who also operate the route.

South America
While the vast number in Europe shadows the number of destinations in South America, there are still plenty to pick from for the intrepid traveler, including:
Air Canada, which shuttles passengers to Bogota and São Paulo Guarulhos year round, in addition to seasonal services to Buenos Aires Ezeiza, while Air Transat, this December will commence direct services to Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) in Lima, Peru.
