Summary
- JetBlue’s Mint product will be added to more domestic routes this winter due to aircraft availability from cutting London flights.
- New leadership at JetBlue is driving changes, with Joanna Geraghty becoming the first female airline CEO in the US.
- JetBlue is expanding its premium Mint product to cities like Phoenix, Vancouver, and San Juan, focusing on customer experience.
Earlier this week, JetBlue announced that it will deploy its premium lie-flat product, Mint, on several new routes this winter. This is because the airline is cutting its London Gatwick flights to summer only, freeing up aircraft to be flown elsewhere.
More domestic destinations with premium products
JetBlue seems to have put the failed merger with Spirit Airlines behind them and is making strides with its new leadership, with Joanna Geraghty becoming the first female airline CEO in the United States (US) and Marty St. George returning as president. On Wednesday, the airline made an announcement that primarily focused on San Juan, Puerto Rico, but had several important pieces.

The airline’s lie-flat product, Mint, will be added to three new routes this winter. Because JetBlue pulled its routes from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York to London Gatwick this winter, the aircraft that would be used on those services will be freed up to fly to other destinations. Beginning in late October, every JetBlue flight to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) will have Mint.

JetBlue flies to Phoenix from three of its focus cities on the East Coast: Boston, New York, and Fort Lauderdale. All three routes are seasonal, and between them, JetBlue will have five flights this winter, giving passengers several options to experience the premium product. Because of aircraft availability, the airline is doubling PHX flights from New York and Boston from once to twice daily.
Phoenix is not the only new city that will receive flights with Mint. JetBlue will add the product from JFK to Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and from JFK to Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, this summer. Each of the routes will have one daily flight with Mint.
Marty St. George said,
“The JetBlue Mint experience is designed with customer-first, residential touches that seamlessly bring the comforts of home to the sky including fully lie-flat seats, restaurant-quality dining and thoughtful amenities. We are confident that customers in Phoenix, Vancouver, and San Juan will appreciate this elevated service and the expanded travel possibilities that come with it.”
Additional changes
As mentioned above, though JetBlue’s announcement earlier this week focused heavily on San Juan, there were other parts. The airline announced plans to expand to three additional Caribbean destinations, with one route given a start date of December 12 and the other two to be announced. From San Juan, JetBlue will begin flying daily from San Juan to St. Croix.

Though launch dates have yet to be announced, JetBlue plans to begin flying from JFK to Argyle International Airport (SVD) in St. Vincent and Flamingo International Airport (BON) in Bonaire. It hopes to launch these services in the fall, but frequencies have not been announced.
As Simple Flying reported earlier this week, JetBlue announced a significant expansion in San Juan, solidifying its position as the number one carrier in Puerto Rico. This followed an expansion announcement from ultra-low-cost-carrier (ULCC) Frontier Airlines, some of JetBlue’s new routes will compete directly with Frontier.
