Australia’s flag carrier, Qantas, is home to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program, a popular airline loyalty membership with over 15 million members. The programme’s simplicity has led to its popularity and, more recently, its membership base growth year on year. Earning ‘Qantas Points’ makes it easy to onboard any Qantas or Jetstar-operated flights alongside its airline partners in the Oneworld alliance. You don’t have to take flights to earn points with multiple hotels, car hire, activity, credit cards, and other rewards partners.

Qantas has five frequent flier tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinium, and Platinium One. All of these let you earn and redeem your points on Qantas and Jetstar-operated flights and earn from Oneworld alliance partners. Let’s dig into more of the perks below:

1

Bronze

The entry-level tier on the flying kangaroo

Qantas Bronze lets you earn and redeem Qantas Points on Qantas, Jetstar, and Oneworld airline partners. Should you earn at least 500 status credits every 12 months, you will be granted another 50 status credits or 8,000 Qantas points.

2

Silver

Including priority phone service, preferred seating, additional baggage (on select routes), and a complimentary Q bag tag. Earning privileges are also 50% higher than Bronze status. To maintain Silver status, you must earn at least 300 status credits and take at least four Qantas or Jetstar (Australia, Asia, or Japan) operated flights in a 12-month calendar period. One complimentary lounge pass will also sweeten your tastebuds.

Domestic and international priority check-in counters (where available) will have you dropping your bags even quicker. However, if you need to pause your travels for an extended period, you can also pause your membership and status for up to 18 months. This is perfect for those becoming new parents or other circumstances that will keep your feet firmly on the ground.

3

Gold

The halfway point to the top tier

Gold will earn you 75% Qantas Points quicker than Bronze. In addition to the benefits of Silver, Gold members get access to premium domestic security lanes, priority checked baggage, and on-departure upgrades using points.

Access to the renowned Qantas Club lounge also comes complimentary, with access to the Qantas Business and International Business lounge at its network around the globe, alongside access to 600 partner lounges through the Oneworld alliance. To maintain Gold status, 700 status credits are required each year, and you will need to take four eligible Qantas or Jetstar flights per year.

Qantas maintains domestic lounges at all major airports across the country, with Australian international lounges in Adelaide, Brisbane, Darwin, Melbourne (business and first), Perth, and Sydney (business and first) airports past passport control. Qantas lounges located outside of Australia include Auckland (business and first), Wellington, Hong Kong, Singapore (business and first), Honolulu, Los Angeles (business and first), and London Heathrow.

Once achieving a minimum of 1,000 status credits each year, you will be granted another 8,000 Qantas Points, or 50 status credits for that year of accrual. This same reward is offered at 1,500 and 2,000 status milestones.

4

Platinium

Your benefits are elevated at this level

With premium security lanes available at participating domestic and international ports. Access to Qantas and Emirates first class lounges also comes standard, alongside 100% bonus status earning privileges. And for last-minute seat selection, you are guaranteed priority economy seats up to the day before departure.

At this point, a Platinum Bonus Reward equates to 50,000 bonus Qantas Points, or a complimentary Gold membership for a family or friend is offered, and this is valid for 90 days of your graduation.

5

Platinium One

The top tier at Qantas

You will continue to earn 100% status compared to Bronze. However, your travel benefits are unmatched, with confirmed international upgrades two days before departure, preferred access to upgrades for family members, waived booking fees via the airline call center, and complimentary extra legroom seating. Complimentary membership to the Qantas Wine Club and invitations to special exclusive events are also included.

At the airport, you will receive invitation-only privileges to the Qantas Ambassador Lounge in addition to your complimentary lounge access. The airline will waive any fare differential on flexible domestic airfares if you need to take an earlier or later flight. You can offer two complimentary lounge invitations to family and friends.

Extra points are also available when earning 5,000 and 7,000 status points on Qantas and Jetstar, which equate to 75,000 and 100,000 Qantas points, respectively. When achieving the below threshold, you will then be granted lifetime status to the below tiers:
