Summary
- Phoenix now has three European routes with the launch of Air France from Paris CDG.
- The French capital was Arizona’s largest unserved European market last year.
- Air France has added Denver, Newark, Ottawa, Quebec City, Phoenix, and Raleigh Durham to its network since 2021.
May 23, 2024, was a significant day for Air France and Phoenix: the first-ever scheduled flights between Paris CDG and Arizona took off. This development means Air France will regularly serve 24 North American airports from Europe this summer (excluding time-limited charter flights to San Diego).
Bonjour, Phoenix!
Using Cirium schedule data to examine Phoenix’s network over the past twenty years shows that the airport has not had three European routes – until now. Paris CDG joins flights to Frankfurt by Condor and London Heathrow by American and British Airways.

Passengers can connect to vast numbers of flights at CDG, supplementing the local traffic. Booking data shows that the bustling French airport was Phoenix’s largest unserved European market last year, with about 43,000 roundtrip passengers (passengers daily each way: 59).
Phoenix was Paris’ third-largest unserved market in North America after Orlando and Las Vegas.

Served three times weekly, the 4,763 nautical mile (8,821 km) route to Phoenix uses Air France’s 276-seat Boeing 787-9s. Cirium data shows that the type is the SkyTeam member’s least commonly deployed equipment to North America this summer. The brand-new service is scheduled as follows, with all times local:
- CDG to Phoenix: AF68, 10:10-12:10 (11h)
- Phoenix to CDG: AF69, 14:10-09:15+1 (10h 5m)
Six airports added since 2021
Going through Air France’s CDG to North America network indicates that it has commenced service to the following destinations in the past three years. Several were of particular importance.

Air France and Delta work closely together.
The frequencies and equipment details relate to July 2024 and might differ at other times. The list excludes Minneapolis, which was paused due to COVID but has returned. Only Air France’s CDG operation is considered. Some Los Angeles flights continue to Papeete.
- Denver (started in 2021): four weekly 787-9 flights in July 2024. Denver did not have Paris flights until 2021.
- Newark (2022): daily A350-900. Newark was last served by Air France in 2012 (so it is not brand-new), after which fellow SkyTeam and transatlantic joint venture partner Delta operated it between 2013 and 2018.
- Ottawa (2023): daily A350-900. Ottawa-CDG was last served by Air Transat’s A310s between 2006 and 2008. The CDG link is now Ottawa’s sole European non-stop service. Not even London Heathrow is flown. Who knows: perhaps that will change when Air Canada gets its A321XLRs.
- Quebec City (2022): three times weekly 777-300ER (the 472-seat version!). It coexists with Air Transat to CDG, with that carrier also flying to London Gatwick. (Quebec City has London flights, but Ottawa doesn’t.)
- Phoenix (2024): three times weekly 787-9; discussed earlier in the article.
- Raleigh Durham (2023): daily A350-900. It replaced Delta, which served it between 2016 and 2023. Air France is now Raleigh Durham’s third European carrier, alongside Icelandair (started in 2022) and Lufthansa (begins in June 2024).
