The return flight from Las Vegas is a night service and operates on the same day, with arrival in Dublin the following afternoon. In other words, return services will arrive in Dublin on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Lynne Embleton, Chief Executive of Aer Lingus, said:

“Aer Lingus is bringing this iconic destination to Irish customers seeking an escape to the winter sun. In addition to the warm climate, Las Vegas is renowned for being one of the greatest entertainment capitals in the world, famous for its shows, concerts, sports events and natural wonders. It is a long-held ambition of ours to fly to Las Vegas. The launch of this new Aer Lingus route is a significant moment for us and our customers.”

52,000 travelers in 2023

According to Steve Hill, CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, 53,000 people traveled to the American city from Dublin last year. He said:

“On behalf of all of Las Vegas, we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Aer Lingus to Las Vegas for the very first time. In 2023, our city welcomed more than 52,000 visitors from Ireland, and this direct, nonstop service from Dublin will undoubtedly be motivation for Irish travelers and visitors throughout Europe to discover everything Las Vegas has to offer. We congratulate Aer Lingus on this expansion and look forward to a very successful partnership.”

As Simple Flying reported in 2022, roundtrip passengers between the two cities reached 73,000 in 2019, just over 20,000 more than the 2023 figures quoted by Hill.

Connecting traffic

It’s not just point-to-point traffic that will be targeted, however. Aer Lingus has timed the flight in order to provide seamless connection options for flights from the UK and Europe. In particular, the airline says that passengers connecting from the following airports will benefit from well-timed options:

  • Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS)
  • London Heathrow (LHR)
  • Manchester (MAN)
  • Glasgow (GLA)
  • Edinburgh (EDI)
  • Barcelona El Prat (BCN)
  • Madrid Adolfo-Suárez (MAD)
  • Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG)
  • Berlin Brandenburg (BER)
  • Dusseldorf (DUS)

At a thrice weekly frequency with its A330-300, Aer Lingus will provide 939 seats per week, resulting in approximately 50,000 seats on offer if operated year-round per Cirium data.

In other words, should the airline successfully attract the 52,000 passengers that would otherwise have taken a one-stop connection traveling between the two cities, its flights will be full. In addition, by offering convenient connections, Aer Lingus can ensure demand stays equal to or above its capacity, ultimately making its operation successful.
