The answer to our question today may be comprehensive. It will depend on whether the jet is still produced, in development, or unavailable. For today’s article, we will focus on those available to buy directly off the assembly line. This rules out jets like the Citation X+, which used to be in the Top 5 with a speed of Mach 0.935, because production of the type ended in 2018. So today, let’s examine which new jets are the fastest.

The current titleholder: the G700

The G700 is seen by most in the industry as the fastest private jet available to buy fresh from the factory today. It features the iconic t-tail with two fuel-efficient Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 turbofans mounted on either tail. But this jet is unique because of its aerodynamics and smooth wing profile, allowing enhanced lift and better speed. These features make the plane one the fastest ever made – more rapid than the following two jets mentioned in our case study, having flown at Mach 0.99, which is incredibly close to the speed of sound during testing.

Actual performance in service may differ based on various factors, including weather and weight.

What is the cabin configuration?

According to the manufacturer, the jet can comfortably carry 13 passengers, of whom eight will enjoy a fully flat bed. Like most jets in its category, it has three main spaces: the forward cabin, which, depending on options, can either have a socializing and working space, space with a separate station for cabin crew, a mid-cabin with a sofa-style seating arrangement, and a large entertainment screen and, at the rear a cabin with a large bed another sofa style seating arrangement – some jets will even have an en-suite shower.

The Dassault Falcon 8X

This private aircraft has one of the most unique features in aviation today, reminiscent of the golden era of the jet age in the 1970s and 1980s. It is one of the few airplanes today with not two, not four, but three jets. Lockheed arranges them similarly to the L-1011 in that two engines are to the side. However, this is where the similarities end, as the FA8X is one of the more technologically advanced and fuel-efficient jets. Its top speed, according to Haute Jets, is 516 knots.

What is the cabin configuration?

Upon entering the aircraft, you will find that it can comfortably accommodate between 12 and 16 passengers across two cabins. The forward section has seats facing each other, creating an ideal space for business meetings and socializing. Meanwhile, the rear section features divan-style seating and includes the main bedroom. Additionally, every seat in the Falcon 8X can be transformed into a single bed, ensuring that all guests can comfortably rest during the flight.

Upon entering the jet, the guest has three cabin spaces to enjoy. The first is standard for almost all private jets, with a space with a set of seats allowing passengers to discuss among themselves. The second mini-cabin is an entertainment zone with a large television screen/ IFE, allowing guests to unwind on sofa-style seating- the third room is the main bedroom that can accommodate two flyers in the bed. Of course, like all jets in this category, every seat turns into a bed, so even if only two guests can enjoy the main bedroom, everyone gets a comfortable place to rest. The jet can accommodate up to 16 passengers.
