Completing the fleet

In 2023, Azul Linhas Aéreas announced it would add a fifth Disney-themed aircraft to its fleet. At the time, it had already received four and had completed the “family,” or so we thought. Every one of the planes has been a new delivery from the Airbus facilities in Toulouse, France.

Azul has nicknamed its Disney planes the “Magical Fleet,” playing on Disney’s marketing. Yesterday, the family was complete with the arrival of Goofy. The new aircraft is an Airbus A320neo. It began its journey from Europe on Friday and arrived on Saturday night at Aeroporto Internacional Belo Horizonte (commonly referred to as Confins because of its location near the city). There, the aircraft will go through its certification procedures to join the airline’s operations.

According to Azul, the livery was designed by Walt Disney World Resort artists. The livery highlights Goofy’s special characteristics, like his iconic ears. After its assembly in Toulouse, the A320neo was painted at Airbus and delivered to the airline.

“The aircraft in the ‘Most Magical Fleet In The World’ are very special to us at Azul because of the way they make customers happy and impact the customer experience. The happiness and sparkle in the eyes of adults and children when they discover they are flying on one of these planes is evident. Goofy is a classic, representing diversity and good humor, and we believe that the aircraft does just that.” Daniel Bicudo, Marketing and Business Director, Azul Linhas Aéreas

About the fleet

In November 2021, Azul received its first Disney aircraft, ‘Mickey Mouse Nas Nuvens.’ Like Goofy, the Mickey plane is an Airbus A320neo. Registered as PR-YSH, the A320neo was the 50th of the type to join the airline’s fleet. Mickey was followed by ‘Minnie Mouse Nas Nuvens’ and ‘Pato Donald Nas Nuvens’, in February and June of 2022, respectively. The Minnie Mouse aircraft is the only one in the fleet on an A321neo, of which Azul has only six.
