AUSTIN (KXAN) — Regional airline SkyWest Airlines will establish a flight crew base at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport this summer, the airport announced Thursday.
SkyWest operates routes to 255 destinations as American Eagle, Delta Connection, United Express and Alaska SkyWest, through partnerships with those airlines. At AUS specifically, SkyWest operates as Delta and United to 10 destinations, according to its online route map.
The crew base will primarily support SkyWest’s Delta operations at AUS. A temporary crew space will open in June, with a permanent space planned for later in the year.
“The addition of AUS as a crew base supports the continued growth and vitality of our airport,” AUS CEO Ghizlane Badawi said in a press release. “This new crew base will not only benefit SkyWest’s operations but will also further our AUS’s rising role as an airport of national significance as we continue to grow to meet the needs of our airline partners and travelers.”
The crew base at AUS will be the 20th for SkyWest, according to Greg Wooley, the airline’s executive vice president of operations.
“SkyWest’s crew members enjoy more opportunity and flexibility than those at any other regional, and we look forward to continuing to improve and enhance our operations at AUS and beyond,” Wooley said.
Delta has launched three new routes from AUS this year — McAllen, Midland/Odessa and Nashville. All operate under the Delta Connection brand.
